Dr Ahmed Al-Mandhari was appointed as WHO Regional Director for the Eastern Mediterranean in 2018. A native of Oman, Dr Al-Mandhari has contributed to the development and modernization of Oman’s health system. A specialist in family and community medicine, Dr Al Mandhari has been Director-General of Sultan Qaboos University Hospital, later becoming Director-General of the Quality Assurance Centre at the MoH.

Otto Cars is a specialist in infectious diseases at the Medical Faculty, Uppsala University, becoming Professor of Infectious Diseases in 2003. He is a senior expert at the Public Health Agency of Sweden and has been actively involved in numerous international initiatives for AMR. He is a member of the WHO Strategic & Technical Advisory Group on AMR. Otto Cars was the founding director of ReAct in 2005, and since 2013 a senior strategic adviser.

Benedetta Allegranzi is an infectious diseases specialist, and has worked as infectious diseases and IPC specialist and assistant professor at the University of Verona. Since 2006 a WHO HQ as the technical lead of the IPC Hub and Taskforce and co-lead of the IPC pillar of the WHO COVID-19 response. She has provided technical support to many countries and led the development of new global IPC guidelines and implementation strategies and tools.
