Finally, opening!

Thomas Cement's new terminal in Uddevalla is now opened

Thomas Cement started building their new terminal for binder in Uddevalla in February this year and on November 22 it was opened for business.

The new terminal brings about 25 new vessel calls to Uddevalla each year and also provides work opportunities for several other companies.

No increase in port dues for 2018

We are keeping our harbor fees at the same level for next year

With unchanged port dues Uddevalla Hamnterminal will help to strengthen the competitiveness of shipping, the ability of Swedish industry to shift transports from road to sea and contribute to a positive and reduced environmental impact.

By maintaining our port dues at the same level for next year, we also contribute to further competitiveness for our customers.

Crane Simulator training

Precision training in TYA's crane simulator

We have once again been able to borrow TYA's Crane Simulator to train both experienced and prospective crane operators in precision and handling different types of cargo. The Simulator is much appreciated by our staff and provides a good training before handling our real cranes.

TYA is a cooperation between employers and workers' organizations in the transport sector with focus on education and working environment.

New Hydrographical Survey made and now you can follow the water levels in Uddevalla in real-time

During the fall and winter we have been looking closely at the depths of water in Uddevalla. Two major projects were launched on November's arrival, a sea survey where we looked at the depths along all our quays, as well as a new installation of a water meter that measures the real-time sea level.

When the Hydrographical Survey began in mid-November, it had started to freeze in Kasebukten. In order for the work to proceed we had to break the thin layer of ice using our work boat, named Tim. The Hydrographical Survey took four days, all the quays were measured besides the dock. We also made measurements in the fairway at Sunninge Sund.

The goal for this Hydrographical Survey is to ensure that what we know today about our water depths are still correct. At the time of writing this newsletter, we are waiting for the final results of the measurements. When they arrive, they will be reviewed and then forwarded to the Swedish Maritime Administration for any corrections of the chart.

SMHI has also been down in our port to install a new water gauge. The new sensors have tighter measurement cycles and will, as before, be available to everyone through the ViVa app. In the app, you can check the current water level in Uddevalla and around our coasts.

Changed Fairway Dues from January

From 1 January 2018, the Swedish Maritime Administration splits the Fairway Dues in two tariffs and lowers the good-based Fairway Dues

The goods-based Fairway Dues is calculated on the cargo loaded or unloaded by the ship, and is now reduced from 2.97 kr to 2.35 kr per ton. At the same time, as announced, the Swedish Maritime Administration will change and increase the vessel-based tariff for the Fairway dues.

Christmas donation

As in previous years, we have chosen to replace Christmas gifts to our customers with a contribution to the Swedish Sea Rescue Society.

They are a non-profit organization, responsible for 70 percent of all sea rescues in Sweden. With no governmental funding, ours and others support is needed to help them save lives at sea.

Words from our CEO

Our market efforts have had a good outcome during the past year, and our regional proximity to customers has been in our favor. The flow of goods in the port has increased, both the goods passing over the quays and passing through the terminal. Because Sweden is so heavily dependent on its foreign trade, we in this way help to strengthen the Swedish economy.

If the volume of goods continues to grow according to the same trend, next year will be another stabilizing factor in our continued change and development plan. We now aim to invest for the future, bit by piece, the most important parts of the port are being renovated. We make our utmost efforts to promote logistics and want this to be noticeable also for you.

Since it´s Christmas time, I would also like to pass on the good feeling I have with me from our business. It is now time make our way in to 2018 and do the necessary changes and find the smart solutions that is required for further success.

To all our customers, suppliers, owners, employees, local residents, ship enthusiasts and everyone else who is following our developments in our newsletters and other media with great attentiveness, I wish you a nice reading and a Joyful Christmas and Happy New Year!

Ulf Stenberg, CEO
