Two new port cranes ordered

Uddevalla Hamnterminal has recently placed a historic order of two new port cranes. This is a big commitment, that will ensure that our business will be a safe, reliable and flexible going forward

We have found two cranes, that combined will work optimally in our business. One crane is a rail-mounted crane made by Konecranes / Gottwald - Portal Harbor Crane, Type G HSK3432. This crane will be placed at Sörviks quay and has a lifting capacity of up to 100 tons. It will mainly increase our capacity in terms of heavy lifts and project cargo. The crane comes with an ELME container spreader which enables a significantly increased production during unloading and loading of container vessels. We are also eliminating risky jobs, as manual work decreases. The crane will also be delivered with an automatic spreader from Stevenel for handling bigbags, wich allows us to lift 15 bags at a time.

The other crane is a Mantsinen 160 Hybrilift, a mobile knuckle boom. This crane will also be stationed at Sörvik, where it will easily be moved between the various quays and to assist with terminal work. The Mantsinen crane is perfect for handling general cargo and bulk, among other things. It comes with a bucket for bulk goods, a hook and an adapter that allows the use of our existing equipment.

The range for knuckle boom crane is 30 meters and the maximum lifting capacity is about 27 tons, which is a great increase to our capacity. With the help of the Hybrilift, we will reduce the environmental footprint with up to an impressive 35 % against conventional methods. This means a substantial increase in capacity without increasing our environmental impact. With its mobility, precision and strength, the Mantsinen crane will become an invaluable tool for both us and our customers.

The two cranes are expected to be operational in December 2019.

We finish our successful cooperation as a class sponsor after three years

We have been the class sponsor to class 9C at Norgårdenskolan in Uddevalla for three years. During these three years we have had the students here visiting us and visited their school several times.

The students has had the opportunity to go on board a vessel in the port and contributing their ideas on how to make the port more visible to Uddevalla's inhabitants, among other things.

This month we ended the successful cooperation, with a lecture on various professions in the port. We wanted to introduce the students to the entire chain of jobs, from marketing and making quotations, to transport planning, to what an agent does, stevedores discharging and loading vessels, maintenance and finally economy and follow up. This was a suitable theme, since the students soon will leave elementary school for new adventures in high school. The conclusion for allt the professions' working att Uddevalla Hamnterminal is that they are all happy with their job, and that the best thing about it is that no day in the port is the same as the other.

We hope that we have suceeded in bringing an interest in the port, and that some of the students will be interested in a future career within Uddevalla Hamnterminal. We concluded the collaboration by exclusively offering the students jobs with us for a couple of weeks this summer. An opportunity that many of the students are interested in. It feel amazing to be able to finish our sponsorship this way!

New contract signed to sponsor after-school football

This month Uddevalla Hamnterminal signed a a sponsorship contract, for LSKs (Ljungskile Sport Club) after school fotball project. The purpose of this project is to create a meaningful leisure time for young people in grades 4-6. We will be back with updates on this ongoing sponsorship in upcoming newsletters.

Words from our CEO

For the sixth consecutive year in a row, Uddevalla Hamnterminal increased its profits in 2018. We handled more than 1.1 million tonnes of goods in the port in 2018, this is an increase of 3.3 per cent compared to the previous year. The result for 2018 sums up to an absolutely fantastic +16.6 million.

Freight flows are, as we all know, very much dependent on various external factors. An approaching Brexit and exchange rate fluctuations are both examples of things that can be either a threat and an opportunity for the industry. But we expect to handle approximately the same amount of goods this year, as we did in the previous year.

Our focus is is currently very much directed towards on the delivery and commissioning of the two new port cranes, that are being delivered to us during the late autumn. They are a long awaited addition for the port that will help us steer the course forward.
