Good news for us, and for all of our customers!

- Two new cranes to Port of Uddevalla

Last week the board of Uddevalla Hamnterminal took a historic decision, we will invest in two new port cranes. This is a great announcment, which means better reliability and competitiveness, beneficial to both us, our partners and our customers.

The investment consists of a large track-bound port crane and a smaller mobile crane. The procurement work has begun and we expect to be ready to make an order already in November this year.

Regular inland freight shipping solutions solves problems for road transports

During this summer and autumn, transports of wind turbines to Uddevalla has had a huge boost. Several major projects has been shipped from Asia, via Uddevalla, with us serving as a hub for further transportation

Large parts of the cargo has continued it's way from us, transported by truck to wind farms in Norway. The largest and heaviest towerparts are usually a bit difficult to transport by road. However we, along with ours customers, managed to successfully redistribute these parts to inland ocean freight instead.

During the past months, the vessel M/S Alba Rousing has been worked as a shuttle service between Uddevalla and Älvenäs/Grums, every four days. This traffic will continue this autumn, and in total, there will be 23 trips made with wind turbine parts.

This project has not only solved this problem for our customer, it has also given us ideas on how to see a solution when it comes to the building logistics in Gothenburg. A lot of constructions will be made in the area during the coming years. One solution to this is using barges as a joint hub, that can deliver directly to the city center of Gothenburg.

This is a direct solution to a number of different problems. Two examples is that truck traffic could be effectively be minimized and efficient storage areas near the construction sites easily organized by interlining the barges.

Other bonuses and results that we will see when transports move from road to sea is reduced emissions and environmental impact, a better utilization of the river Göta Älv and of our existing maritime traffic and modernized building logistics.

Transhipment of timber for Södra

For the past four years Södra has had a terminal for transhipment in Port of Uddevalla, along with an associated measuring station

Pulpwood and sawn timber from Bohuslän and Dalsland arrives to the port by truck to be switched to railway, after first being measured by the company MVF Qbera. By railway the timber reaches its final destination, Södra Cell Värö, one of the Worlds most modern pulp production facilities.

The transhipment has gradually increased year by year and has become an important component of Södra's material supply. Regular departures with dedicated trains, from our area to Värö, means safety in transports for Södra. And for the distance where truck transport previously was used, today railway is a good option, which is also beneficial for the environment.

School classes visiting - on the theme "Our City"

The school Sommarhemsskolan in Uddevalla has recently started a theme work, with the focus "Our City" for their third grade pupils

The school classes will visit different companies situated in Uddevalla to be able to study the city closer. We have the honour to receive a visits from two classes in mid-October. This is s great opportunity to show residents in Uddevalla more of our business, with all the different types of work going on within the port area. Who knows, maybe one of the students is our future colleague?

New Maintenance Manager

From 1 August, the company has recruited Johan Östlund as new maintenance manager to the company's technical department

This is a completely new service with us and thus means an extension of the department. As maintenance manager, Johan has a total responsibility for the company's truck and crane workshop. In addition to this, he will also be involved in the department's other areas of responsibility such as maintenance of real estate, railway and quays.

Johan comes from a position as District Manager at Tubus AB, but has a broad background with experience of, among other things, port operations, cranes and leadership. Thanks to this new role, the department will be better resourced and get an increase in competence. Something that comes well at hand with the upcoming investments in new cranes, as well as the purchase and implementation of a new maintenance system.

We welcome Johan to us at Uddevalla Hamnterminal!

Communication plan for Uddevalla Hamnterminal

We will start a project to develope a new Communication plan for Port of Uddevalla during this fall

The Communication plan will provide us with tools to improve and clarify our communication, both externally and internally. During the project we will process everything from our vision to market plan. We expect the plan to be fully implemented with our business during 2019. This is an exciting work that we hope will have a good impact, for both our employees and customers.

Words from our CEO

With the summer behind us, we have been tested trough great challenges to deliver our logistical services, to almost impossible demands for flexibility. The weather has been beneficial for our operations. The cargo volumes has also been relatively evenly distributed during the summer months, which has benefited us.

The summer season with holidays has of course, affected our business, but good planning has led to the fact that we have had more summer employees this year, than we have had in a long time. When this year's wind power projects started to arrive in Uddevalla this spring, we had a number of challenges to crack. One of the major challenges was to get the wind turbine parts out of the port area, in time to be able to recive the new parts that were discharged from new incoming vessels.

Together with our customers we managed to make changes in the logistic flow, with the result on having a large number of wind power parts loaded on a vessel instead of a truck. M/V Alba Rousing is the vessel in focus, and she has now made a great number of domestic trips from Uddevalla to Älvenäs in Lake Vänern, loaded with the largest and heaviest wind power parts. This resulted in the possibility of  discharging all the wind turbine parts that arrived at Port of Uddevalla henceforth, without unwelcome logistic costs or waiting time being added.

During the autumn's first board meeting, a number of important events were dealt with. A good volume increase was reported for the first eight months of 2018, which enabled us to show a good financial result. A major investment in the form of two new port cranes was decided, with implementation in the near future. To adapt our equipment to customers' demands for faster handling and reduced production disturbances, we are constantly working to renew our cranes and machinery. Our mission here is to create a sustainable financial future for both employees and customers.

As the fall has taken hold of the weather, with rain, storm and floods, there are other challenges for our business. But we are used to this by now, and do our utmost to make the weatherimpact as small as possible for our customers.

Best wishes
Ulf Stenberg, CEO
