Summer season = summer staff

The summer season has started, which means that this year's summer staff is now in place, working with us. In the picture below you can see all our new employees, who you might meet on our quays this summer.

Warmly welcome to us at Uddevalla Hamnterminal!

Large-scale storage and handling of wind turbines

Port of Uddevalla once again functions as a hub for storage and distribution of wind turbines.

Our large and open storage areas are ideal, not only for storage, but also for distribution just-in-time to buildingsites. The projects shipped to Uddevalla this year is not only being constructed in the area nearby Uddevalla, they also consist of goods that are being distributed to several buildingsites in Norway.

We will recieve, in total 58 complete wind turbines - delivered in parts, during the summer and autumn. These parts includes wings, nacelles and hubs as well as various accessories. We also have allocated a total of 28,000 m² storage area for this.

While this project is in progress, all our other businesses and assignments will be taken care of as usual. With 15 planned vessels loaded with wind turbines and nearly 600 deliveries to buildingsites, this means that we will need to be even more flexible in our logistics planning and scheduling.

This is a great and exciting challenge we are happy to perform!

New route ahead for our longtime co-worker

Jan-Erik Henriksson is now retiring after many years of working in the port

Jan-Erik, to many probably better known as Diddi, has had several roles during his time working with us. He has been a Tallyman and a Freight forwarder and an Agent at Swanfalk Shipping. During the more recent years he has also been working as a PFSO and Quality Manager at Uddevalla Hamnterminal.

We would like to wish Diddi all the best, with hopes for a wonderful retirement!

The role of PFSO is taken over by our Harbour Captain, Robert Jönsson

New permit for customs warehousing

Uddevalla Hamnterminal has received a new permit to operate customs warehousing under the new EU regulations

New EU regulations for customs warehousing will be introduced in Sweden this autumn. This implies certain changes, one is that all goods in customs warehousing must be traceable and registered in systems approved by Customs Administration.

To manage these new rules, Uddevalla Hamnterminal has been working on developing a new warehousing system. This has now been approved by the Customs Administration and will be implemented from October 1st 2018.

Project Trampolinen

Revisit from the students from Norgårdenskolans 8th grade class.

We have the honor of taking part as a mentor to this class through The Municipality of Uddevalla´s project called Trampolinen (springboard to working life). This visit, the focus was dedicated to the companies active within the port area and their important role, when it comes to import and export. We also had the pleasure of having Fredrik Dahlgren, represenative from Swedish Maritime Administration, present and informing about their business.

Picture is taken at the top of one of our buildings were we got a good overview of all the wind turbines stored in the Port at the moment. While there we were also lucky to see M/V Star Spirit, assisted by two tugs, docking at Sörvik.

The class begins 9th grade this fall and we are looking forward to the third and final year of our collaboration. During autumn we are planning yet another visit. This time with the plan to present the various types of labours in the port. In the long term, we also have hopes and prospects for employments in the future.

External storage for Inovyn

In the autumn Inovyn, a company situated in Stenungsund, will invest in a new production line. In order for them to avoid disturbances in deliveries and maintain continuity, we have been able to offer them storage in a large indoor warehouse externally.

Flexible handling, large storage areas and the ability to load trucks and containers gives Inovyn the benefits and services that they have requested, all in one place.

Military training in the harbor

During the spring a couple of major exercises, in and around the harbor area, where arranged by the Swedish Armed Forces and locar forces. The port is considered to be of major importance nationally and therefore it should be defended against attacks during turmoil. This is the reason to why the training was conducted in our area.

The excercise worked as planned and contacts were established.

Result of customer survey

During this spring we sent out a customer survey to all our Swedish customers. We are excited to once again present a good result that we are very proud of. On a 5-level scale, we scored 4.36 average, which is a higher result than the previous customer survey conducted in 2016.

Based on the survey, the thing that is most appreciated by our customers, is that we meet their expectations and that we are easy to get in touch with. We are also happy to see that the impression of our website is the score that has increased the most since our last measurement.

According to the survey, we still have to develope the way we handle claims. This is of course something we will take with us and continue to work with, to make sure that we will handle this better in the future.

Words from our CEO

Summer came earlier than usual this year and has offered a fantastic warm and sunny weather in Sweden during both May and June. We have now entered the holiday season, but work in Uddevalla harbor continues in full swing. To our assitance we have our summer staff and, of course, all our other employees. I am very grateful for the great commitment of all our staff!

During the spring we have started a project regarding the surveillance of the port area and the vessels that calls the port. The first stage is about figuring out were we are, what we need and conducting a risk assessment. This is a project that will continue in the autumn, starting with a review of the ports security system, a procurement and then implementation of the extended monitoring systems, among other things. This is an important upgrade for us that is strongly linked to current shipping protection rules.

I would like to end this newsletter by wishing you all a really good summer!

Best regards
Ulf Stenberg, CEO
