New addition reinforces our fleet of machinery

A new Reachstacker from N.C Nielsen A/S, with a lifting capacity of 100 tonnes, makes a great new addition to our fleet of machinery

The Reachstacker is custom built and comes equipped with a lifting hook, instead of the more traditional container lifting spreader. With this truck we will increase our flexibility and become better adapted to meet our customers requirements.

We have chosen to invest in this Reachstacker as we see a growing demand for increased lifting capacity, especially when it comes to the segments of project cargo and wind power. Something that further motivates this investment is that we have a good forecast when it comes to wind power projects via Port of Uddevalla in the coming years, as orders and bookings are added frequently.

Our aim is to strengthen our brand in these segments, by combining the use of this Reachstacker with our new 100-ton crane from Konecranes/Gottwald.

New bulk product to Uddevalla

Wibax, who has their facility within our area, are now recieving a new product - AdBlue. The new product is handled in a collaboration between two of our customers, Wibax and Yara, a fact that makes this extra exciting to us

Up until recently Wibax had a part of their business on Badö, but after we made a rebuild of the Skeppsholmspier, they have now moved all of their business there. The rebuild consisted of a new tank quay, which gives us and our customers; especially Wibax, the opportunity to receive larger, longer and more in-depth vessels than what was previously possible on Badö quay.

In order to meet today's high demands on environment and safety, Wibax's own facility has also undergone an extensive renovation in the recent years. Thanks to these upgrades, Wibax has successfully brought new volumes home. The new product is discharged from vessels to Wibax cisterns, and the first vessel with AdBlue arrived just a few weeks ago.

Demand for AdBlue is steady and, according to Wibax and their customer Yara, the product has great opportunities to increase in the coming years. Today AdBlue is used both in trucks, cars and construction machinery and as older diesel-powered vehicles are replaced with new ones, the demand for AdBlue will continue to grow.

AdBlue will be distributed from Wibax depot with tank trucks to begin with. However the plan is to get this product distributed by rail in the near future.Together with us, Wibax are working on a solution for this at the moment.

Two cranes delivered, just in time for Christmas!

Almost excactly one year ago we placed an historical order on two new port cranes. Those cranes are now finally in place in Uddevalla

We have found two cranes, that combined will work optimally in our business. One crane is a rail-mounted crane made by Konecranes / Gottwald - a Portal Harbor Crane, Type G HSK3432. This crane has a lifting capacity of up to 100 tons and it will mainly increase our capacity in terms of heavy lifts and project cargo.

The tracked crane arrived in parts at the end of October and has been placed on Sörvikskajen. The crane comes with an ELME container spreader which enables a significantly increased production during unloading and loading of container vessels. We are also eliminating risky jobs, as manual work decreases. The crane will also be delivered with an automatic spreader from Stevenel for handling bigbags, wich allows us to lift 15 bags at a time. Since the arrival, the crane has been fully assembled and tested. It was used in operation for the first time last week, with brilliant results.

Our second crane is a Mantsinen 160 Hybrilift, a mobile knuckle boom. This crane arrived mounted at the end of last week and will also be stationed at Sörvik. Here it will be easily moved between the various quays and can also be used to assist with terminal work. Among other things, the Mantsinen crane is perfect for handling general cargo and bulk. It comes with a bucket for bulk goods, a hook and an adapter that allows the use of our existing equipment.

The range for the knuckle boom crane is 30 meters and the maximum lifting capacity is about 27 tonnes, which is a great increase to our capacity. With the help of the Hybrilift, we will reduce the environmental footprint with up to an impressive 35 % against conventional methods. This means a substantial increase in capacity without increasing our environmental impact. With its mobility, precision and strength, the Mantsinen crane will become an invaluable tool for both us and our customers.

For a cleaner Byfjord, a gift from us to Uddevalla

Uddevalla Hamnterminal have bought a Seabin, a garbage can that will help clean up in the the ocean

This Seabin has now been handed over, as a gift, to the municipality of Uddevalla. The Seabin will be placed in a well-chosen location in Bäveån this spring. Our hopes is that it will be useful for many years to come and that people passing by can watch the Seabin in action.

Sponsoring after school fotball

Port of Uddevalla has during 2019 participated in sponsoring Ljungskile SK's youth activity leisure fotball

Recently Povel Fridefors (Club Manager) and Erik Lund (Ass. Coach) payed us a visit to talk about the outcome of this year and about their plans for the future activities.

This was the second year that LSK arranged after school football for youngsters (grades 4-6). Their aim is to be a part of creating a meaningful leisure time for these youngsters and of course getting them interested in fotball.

LSK has welcomed youngsters to Skarsjövallen for after school fotball every week, whether they usually play or not. The participants has also been offered snacks in connection with the training.

As the season for fotball has come to an end for this year, Povel and Erik says that it has been a successful one. They also tell they have plans to develop this leisure time activity further in the years to come. After school fotball will restart in the spring of 2020!

New crane foreman recently joined Uddevalla Hamnterminal

We are happy to announce that Jonas Westlund joined us as new crane foreman earlier this fall. Jonas has previously worked as an electrician in close cooperation to Uddevalla Hamnterminal and is very familiar with the ports cranes and equipment.

We welcome Jonas and hope he will enjoy working at Uddevalla Hamnterminal in his new role!

We support the Swedish Sea Rescue Society, Christmas 2019

As in previous years, we have chosen to replace Christmas gifts to our customers with a contribution to the Swedish Sea Rescue Society. They are a non-profit organization, responsible for 70 percent of all sea rescues in Sweden. With no governmental funding, ours and others support is needed to help them save lives at sea.

Seasonal greetings from our CEO

With Christmas around the corner, there is always an expectant atmosphere in the air this time of year. However we are also excited about something else this year, for almost two years now we have prepared, calculated, pondered and made decisions on what is now so imminent. We finally have two new port cranes in Uddevalla, oh how exciting it is to be a part of this kind of happening in our port! We do still have the last bit of the journey ahead of us, as we need to get to know these new cranes. They will be tested in every posssible way to make sure all details are perfect and we also need to practice on how to use them to their full potential.

When I summarize this year, which seemed to have rushed unusually fast, it has been a successful year for us. We made a number of important changes and we have maintained a stable freight flow through the port throughout the year. Even though we have had to dealt with both pressured and stressful situations, all of us who work here, always do our job with a flexibility of the highest class. I belive that this is one of the most important reasons why it has been such a successful year.

As we leave this exciting year behind us we are proud that we have gained the confidence of our customers to handle their logistical challenges, both now and in the future. We are strengthened in our own faith for each year of success, and we are also strengthened by our customers' future faith in us.This allows us to continue to be experts in logistics.

With best wishes for a Merry Christmas and
a happy New Year!

Ulf Stenberg, CEO
