Royal interest in Port of Uddevallas development

On September 25, King Carl XVI Gustaf payed a visit to Uddevalla to honor the Association Föreningen Norden centennial celebration. During his visit to Uddevalla he had expressed a particular interest in Port of Uddevalla

Föreningen Norden is an assiciation unrelated to party-political and religion, that focuses on increasing cooperation within the Nordic region. At the HM. the king's initiative, the centenary was celebrated in the region of Svinesund. The program began in Strömstad with a visit aboard MS Veslø. Several seminars, themed marine environment and sustainable transports, were held on cross-border cooperation in the joint Swedish-Norwegian Sea. The public also got a chance to meet the king here, before the tour went on their way on to Uddevalla.

HM The King, together with Föreningen Norden was recieved in Uddevalla, by representatives from Uddevalla municipality and Port of Uddevalla at the port's premises. HM. The King had shown particular interest in the port operations in Uddevalla. A seminar was therefore held about the port's upcoming development and expansion by City manager Peter Larsson, complete with details about the logistics changes this will entail from a sustainability perspective.

This year's participation in the PPI Transport Symposium

PPI (Paper Pulp Industries) is an annual fair for everyone involved in transport, handling and distribution of forest products, such as paper and pulp

PPI was organized for the 23rd consecutive year, this time arranged by one of Europe's largest ports in handling these types of goods, Port of Tarragona in Spain. Over 550 participants, consisting of approximately equal parts of ports / terminals, transporters and producers, from all over the world met up here from 16h to 18th of September. Port of Uddevalla was represented by our Marketing Manager Jacob Engholm

The seminars focused mainly on trends in economics, politics and the environment and the industry as a whole was also troughly discussed. One thing that was very obvious this year is that all of us will be affected by the stricter environmental requirements and the increased digitalisation that is happening now and that will continue to develop in the future.

Jacob came back to Uddevalla with interesting potential volumes and great meetings with customers and logistics partners. He had also had the opportunity to go on an inspiring tour of Port of Tarragona and of course also gotten the chance to catch up on the latest gossip about the industry.

Wind power to Uddevalla favorable for other ports

We recieved several turbine parts for discharging here in Uddevalla, during spring and summer. The heaviest and largest parts of these towers are difficult to transport by truck, due to their size

For two years in a row, have solved this issue by loading these tower parts on to smaller vessels for inland freight by sea. M/V Wilson Ghent and M/V Hendrik S has this year made a total of 13 trips from Uddevalla, up the Göta River to their final station at Port of Kristinehamn. This is an excellent example of how we can use our inland waterways to transport goods. The transhipment has also proven to been favorable for Kristinehamn, in an article on Vänerhamn's website they themselves tell us about the importance this has had for them.

It will soon be time for the next round of wind turbines shipment to come our way here in Uddevalla, as we await the next shipment in October.

New generation tanker calls at Port of Uddevalla

A couple of weeks ago the vessel M/T Ramanda Uddevalla called at Uddevalla. Ramanda belongs to a new generation of tankers, powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG)

Powering the vessel with LNG means a significant reduction of carbon dioxide emissions compared to traditional vessels. LNG is also a colorless, odorless and non-toxic liquefied gas.

M/T Ramanda goes under Swedish-flag and is owned by the family company Rederi AB Älvtank. She was delivered to her home port of Donsö in 2018. Älvtank is also the owner of  one of the sister vessel; M/T Ramelia, who was delivered to them just a few weeks ago.

New t-shirt makes great complement to our high visibility clothing!

By supplementing our high visibility clothing with a new t-shirt for all staff working in the port, we have made an investment in improving safety. Our t-shirts also helps to better clarify that the person you meet is one of our employees and makes the working environment for our staff much more comfortable during the summer months.

Port of Uddevalla helps keep the ocean clean

We have invested in a wastebin for the sea, a so-called Seabin. Its technology helps clean up plastic and other debris that float around the water nearby.

Soon our Seabin will have a place somewhere in Uddevalla and contribute to a cleaner marine environment!

First impressions from Uddevalla

After working almost half a year at Port of Uddevalla, I can conclude that it has been a period of great impressions, in a world that is constantly changing.

New collegues had given me a fantastic reception, introducing and guiding me around every corner of the company. This has strengthened my impression of a company with loyal and dedicated employees who are very much committed to their work. The people here has both a knowledge and a pride in what they do and achieve together. The customers and suppliers I met have also given me a positive impression. With constructive conversations about our collaborations and how we can improve what we do together, to be even better in the future.

Despite the slowdown in the economy, Uddevalla Hamnterminal has shown a good interim report and we have a volume forecast that exceeds the budget for 2019. This makes me feel secure in a time when there are signals of cyclical turmoil, Brexit and a possible US-China trade war. Declining volumes due to economic slowdown are difficult to influence, but changes can also create new possibilities. With the new machines and cranes, which will soon be in place with us, we will be able take on new volumes in a way we have not been able to do before.

We are now looking forward to taking on new challenges ahead as a stronger logistic link, being more committed and more flexible than ever before. In other words, we are ready for the next step and we hope that you are ready to join us on this journey?

Kind Regards
Jacob Engholm, Marketing manager
