One-to-one calls: Follow-up |
Throughout the month of June, we organized 1-to-1 calls with all LOBs / Regions to better understand our global context and learn more about local priorities and roadmaps for disability inclusion. Even though not everyone is at the same level of maturity in this topic, we believe that this network is an important lever to better formalize and follow our actions, as well as share best practices to make GEODIS a more inclusive place to work both from the outside perspective and from the inside.
Among the key initiatives put in place to support people with disabilities and change the mindset of our managers and employees to more inclusive one, we can highlight the following:
- Organizing sensibilisation campaigns and disability awareness trainings for managers, especially about non-visible types of disability
- Offering extra benefits for employees declaring their disability (1 additional paid day off per year, assistance in creating their official disability demand, disability allowance)
- Establishing partnerships with associations working in favor of people with disabilities through different axes: direct recruitment, responsible purchasing, community volunteering
Click here to visit our SharePoint and check the best practices shared by different LOBs / Regions. Do not hesitate to add more!
We also invite you to formalize your local network and action plan for this year, as well as provide us with an overview of country-specific legislative constraints under your scope. Click on the buttons below to access and fill in the shared documents. |

Checking facts & Breaking myths |

People with a disability are an insignificant group
This is false!
People with disabilities comprise 15% of the population or more than a billion people. They are the largest minority group in the world and are comparable to the population of China. The worldwide figure is expected to double to 2 billion by 2050.
People with disabilities have comparable access to vocational training as compared to non-disabled people in most countries |
This is false!
Reasonable accommodation in education and vocational training is not a full reality yet, and may not be for some time. Other barriers are inaccessible transportation and overprotective parents who may be fearful of their children working. |
Most people with disabilities do not require a reasonable accommodation or adjustment to do their job |
This is true!
Researches show that most people with disabilities do not require a reasonable accommodation to do their job. When they do require an accommodation 44% of the accommodations have no financial cost. When a cost is involved, it is quite low and is rather considered as a wise business investment. |
People with disabilities are more likely to have on the job accidents than non-disabled people |
This is false!
Many employers are concerned about the safety of people with disabilities in the workplace. But, in fact, researches show that people with disabilities have fewer accidents on the job then non-disabled people. However, specific evacuation procedures and alerting lights or alarms may be necessary for people with disabilities in times of emergency. |

GEODIS US: WIN initiative |
In 2021, GEODIS US launched its Worker’s Inclusive Network (WIN) - an ambitious project run at the pilot Indy campus that aims to promote the culture of inclusivity through concrete recruitment and training actions and sets the following objectives:
- CSR axe: develop an initiative that has financial, social, and cultural return on investment (ROI) and serves the community we operate in
- Employment axe: become a career destination employer and continue to grow our diverse talent pool
- Internal axe: foster the engagement of employees and promote supportive and inclusive work environment
Project team explains that diversity not only unlocks innovation and drives competition, but also can be a lever of organizational growth as it is proven that people with disabilities who match well with their position show higher productivity rates and lower turnover.
To run this initiative, GEODIS has partnered with a team of disability consultants, James Emmett & Company, who is responsible for the development, implementation, and support of an inclusive workforce model. The work of the consultants includes:
- On-site evaluation of open positions to identify hiring needs and job qualifications
- Candidate sourcing according to the set target (70 hires until May 2022) ensuring "good fit" & 90% retention of placed candidate within 1 year after the recruitment
- Performing disability awareness & follow-up training to GEODIS leadership and team members
- Communicating the overall disability inclusion message internally & to partners
WIN initiative demonstrates a strong commitment of GEODIS to creating inclusive work culture and supporting the employment of people with disabilities. For more information about this project, please visit our SharePoint. |
