Austrian Ruth Maier came to Norway in 1939 as a refugee and formed a close friendship with aspiring author Gunvor Hofmo. After a few years, Maier is arrested, deported, and killed. This incident left a deep impression on Hofmo and would reverberate throughout the rest of her life and writing. Using a mix of archive material, interviews with friends and family, and reenactments, filmmaker Elsa Kvamme tells a story about two unique women who saw through the chaos in a dark time and found comfort in each other's company
