Monica Strømdahl
Monica Strømdahl is an international award-winning documentary stills photographer. She graduated with a BA in Fine Art Photography at Falmouth College of Arts, UK and has since 2009 worked as a documentary photographer. In 2017 she participated in The Norwegian Journal of Photography with the photo project Flophouse America. In 2019 she exhibited the project as part of a group exhibition - Norwegian Documentary Photography, at the Henie Onstad Arts Center. The same year she won the 1st prize in the Norwegian Picture of the Year as well as being nominated for the Leica Oscar Barnack Award (LOBA). Monica is known for her intimate way of portraying people and their lives. For more than 15 years she has photographed people within various run-down, cheap hotels in the USA, the so-called flophouse hotels. She is currently furthering her work by creating documentary films. “Flophouse America” is her debut feature film.
