About the markets

Compulsory public health insurance systems form the basis of South Korea and Japan’s sophisticated healthcare system that serve a combined population of 175 million people. This has created a largely reimbursed market for medical devices and medicine.

Japan’s medical expenditures have increased over 30% since 2000 and now constitute 11% of GDP and are expected to continue growing as the populations ages. 

South Korea’s health expenditures are 8.8% of GDP and forecasted to grow at a CAGR of 6.2% during 2020-2025, primarily driven by an aging population and adoption of new technologies.
