Joachim Trier joins competition jury in Cannes

The main competition at the Cannes Film Festival is one of the most prestigious competitions a film can participate in. Sitting on the jury here is thus also a great vote of confidence for the jury members.

A long relationship with Cannes

Joachim Trier has a long relationship with the Cannes Film Festival and has previously had his films Oslo 31 August (2011) shown in the Un Certain Regard program and Louder Than Bombs (2015) and The Worst Person in the World (2021) in the main competition. The main actress Renate Reinsve received the award for best female actress in Cannes in 2021, and The Worst Person in the World also ended up with two Oscar nominations. Trier has written the script for all these films in collaboration with director and screenwriter Eskil Vogt.

Trier also has extensive experience in jury work for the French film festival. In 2014, the Norwegian filmmaker sat on the Cannes jury for short films and Cinefoundation (student film). And in 2018, Trier sat as jury president for the prestigious Critics' Week.

A jury of actors, directors, and producers

In the jury for the main competition in Cannes, Trier will be joined by the French actor Vincent Lindon who will be the jury leader, the British actress, producer, and director Rebecca Hall, the Indian actress Deepika Padukone, the Swedish actress Noomi Rapace, the Italian director and actress Jasmine Trinca, the Iranian director and producer Asghar Farhadi, French director and actor Ladj Ly and American director and screenwriter Jeff Nichols.

Among other Norwegians who have done jury duty in the main competition, we have film critic Arne Hestenes in 1984, Liv Ullmann was the jury leader for the main competition in 2001, and her daughter Linn Ullmann was a jury member in 2011.
