The Coronavirus extends the Chinese New Year UPDATE

Dear customer,

Yesterday the World Health Organization (WHO) proclaimed that the ongoing Coronavirus outbreak are considered a global emergency. This will most likely result in further traveling restrictions to and from China. Meanwhile, more and more Chinese regions follow the previously informed restrictions applied for Shanghai and other cities. Only vital social functions are allowed to proceed until below dates.

Below cities will remain closed until February 9th, with first working day on February 10th.

  • Shanghai
  • Ningbo
  • Chongqing
  • Shenzhen
  • Guangzhou
  • Wuxi
  • Qingdao
  • Zhengzhou
  • Xiamen
  • Suzhou

The city of Wuhan in Hubei Province will remain closed until February 13th, with the first working day on February 14th. All GEODIS offices in effected regions will open in accordance with regional guidelines. Provinces and cities not mentioned here, will preliminary resume normal routines on February 3rd.

Hong Kong remains fully operational and cargo is moving in /out of China via standard cross border road services. The border is highly restricted for passenger travel however, the flow of goods has not been constrained. Please note that cost and transit time will be provided on a shipment to shipment basis.

We must yet again, stress the fact that this will cause major disruptions in the production and logistic supply chains. We expect the constraints in terminals, warehouses and production to continue, with lasting delays beyond the resumption of regular operations.

Unfortunately, this is beyond our control and any extra cost due to this situation will not be absorbed by us.

We maintain a close contact with our colleagues in the region and will revert with more region-specific information once available.

If you have any question, you are welcome to contact your local GEODIS office.

Yours Sincerely,
GEODIS Sweden AB
